Anatomy of the grip

Four decisions that
change every plant

  1. 01

    Load-bearing strap

The strap, not your fingers, carries the load. It wraps the heel of the hand so you push through the webbing instead of gripping and squeezing the shaft.

  2. 02

    Neutral wrist angle

The strap geometry holds the wrist in a neutral position rather than the extended, cocked-back angle a conventional grip forces on every plant.

  3. 03

    Centerline force path

Because the load sits over the pole's axis, force is transmitted straight down the centerline. Nothing is lost to the sideways torque a standard grip creates.

  4. 04

    Open-hand release

Your hand can relax completely between plants. On long descents, that recovery time is what keeps the forearm from burning out.

Biomechanics

Better mechanics, not more parts

The FloPole does not add gadgets to a pole. It corrects the one interface that every step passes through — the connection between your hand and the shaft.

Comfort that lasts the whole day

With the load carried by the strap over the pole's centerline, your hand stops fighting the grip. Hours eight through twelve feel like hours one through four.

Force where you actually want it

Each plant transmits force directly down the pole rather than bleeding off through a bent wrist, so more of your push turns into forward and upward movement.

Fatigue and injury risk down

A neutral wrist under load means less strain on the joint and tendons — the difference between finishing strong and nursing a sore wrist for a week.

Field report

“Twelve miles of scree descent and my wrists were the one thing that did not hurt. The strap does the work — my hands were basically open the whole way down.”

Built for the descent

Downhill is where wrists take the beating. It is also where the centerline grip makes the biggest difference.
